Zydus Lifesciences Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company under the Zydus Cadila Group with its headquarters in Ahmedabad. The company was founded by Ramanbhai B. Patel, who was a professor at L.M. College of Pharmacy. He, along with his business associate Indravardan Modi started off in 1952 with a company which was known as Cadila Healthcare Limited. Their company was incorporated on May 15 in the year 1956 under the name Cadila Healthcare Private Ltd. the company in the year 1996, was renamed as Cadila Healthcare Ltd. Following a split in the Patel and Modi families in the year 1995, Modi took his share from the company and started a new company under the name Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. while Ranabhai Patel’s share was made into Cadila Healthcare Ltd. Cadila Healthcare Ltd was incorporated in May in the year 1995 and in July 1996, the company became a public limited company. The company was renamed as Zydus Lifesciences Limited in 2022. The company conducted human trials for the development of their coronavirus vaccine ZyCoV-D, after getting a nod from the DCGI, Government of India, in the year 2020.

The company specializes in the areas of generics, diagnostics, vaccines, pain management, animal health and dermatology. The company also produces herbal, skin care and OTC products. The company entered the anti-malarial segment in the year 1996 after its alliance with a Chinese pharma company Gulin Pharma. It launched its product called Falcigo in India to combat malaria. It entered the neutraceutical segment with the launch of Zydus Nutriva, which was a new division in the company.

Zydus Lifesciences Limited has its manufacturing units in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim in India and in US and Brazil outside India. The company has its manufacturing facilities located at Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar and Vadodara in Gujarat, Ponda in Goa, Raigad in Maharashtra and Solan in Himachal Pradesh. The company has an international presence in countries like Brazil, Spain, Japan, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, Latin America, US, France and Spain.
