Coronary thrombo-embolic events after Covid-19 vaccination - Video

Overview

Thrombo-embolic complications after Corona virus disease-19 (COVID-19) vaccination have been previously reported. Study in Indian heart journal reported that the coronary thrombo-embolic complications (CTE) after COVID-19 vaccination in a single centre during the initial 3 months of vaccination drive in India.

Total of the 89 patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome and angiographic evidence of coronary thrombus, 42% had prior vaccination history. Covishield was the most used vaccine- (76%), while only 24% had Covaxin. Baseline characteristics were similar in both vaccinated (VG) and non-vaccinated group (NVG).

Thrombocytopenia was not noted in any of the vaccinated patients, while 3.8% of non-vaccinated group patients had thrombocytopenia. The researchers hence concluded that this is the first report of coronary thrombo-embolic complications after COVID-19 vaccination during the first 3 months of vaccination drive in India. However, further reports are needed to identify the incidence of this rare but serious adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination.
