Overview
The remarkable characteristics of stem cells (SCs), particularly their potency, capacity for self-renewal, and clonality, are well known. In recent years, there have been notable advancements in the field of cell therapy.
Discussing a recent review article titled "Stem-cell therapy in dermatology – Challenges and opportunities" published in Indian Journal of Skin Allergy published by Scientific Scholar.
Medical Dialogues team speaks with the lead authors of the research, Dr. Disha Chakraborty and Dr. Abhishek De from the Department of Dermatology, Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal, India.
They talk about what Stem Cell Therapy is and how this is evolving as a therapeutic choice across different disciplines. Dr Abhishek puts light on the findings about the application of Steam Cell Therapy in Dermatological treatment and research specifying some major dermatological diseases, where patients can benefit from this technique and approach.

Dr. Nandita Mohan

Dr. Nandita Mohan is a practicing pediatric dentist with more than 5 years of clinical work experience. Along with this, she is equally interested in keeping herself up to date about the latest developments in the field of medicine and dentistry which is the driving force for her to be in association with Medical Dialogues. She also has her name attached with many publications; both national and international. She has pursued her BDS from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and later went to enter her dream specialty (MDS) in the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry from Pt. Dr. Disha Chakraborty, a board-certified dermatologist from India and ECFMG-certified US-IMG, completed her dermatology residency in India and is currently a postdoctoral fellow specializing in allergy and autoimmune skin diseases. With a strong clinical and research background, she is dedicated to advancing dermatological science and improving patient care. Actively engaged in research on allergy and autoimmune conditions, she strives to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Her ultimate goal is to match into a US dermatology residency to further refine her expertise and contribute to the field.
Dr. Abhishek MBBS, MD is a renowned dermatologist with expertise in dermatosurgery, lasers, trichology, and aesthetics. An MD graduate from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, he has trained globally in Singapore, Thailand, the USA, and Europe. Currently an Associate Professor at Calcutta National Medical College, he has mentored numerous dermatologists and published over 40 research papers. A recipient of multiple prestigious awards, he co-edited Textbook of Lasers in Dermatology. He specializes in lasers, anti-aging, and aesthetic procedures and is a key member of several international dermatology
