13-Year-Old Saved by Liver Transplant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital - Dr. Ushast Dhir - Video
|
Overview
Today, we delve into the compelling case of Radha, who was diagnosed with Wilson's disease, a rare genetic condition marked by excessive copper buildup in the body. Despite years of managing her condition under the care of the expert medical professionals at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Radha faced a severe setback when she contracted hepatitis A, leading to acute-on-chronic liver failure.
Her condition rapidly deteriorated, presenting with jaundice, elevated bilirubin levels, and hepatic encephalopathy, necessitating urgent life support measures. With the situation becoming increasingly critical, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) team recommended a liver transplant as the best course of action.
Displaying remarkable bravery, Radha's mother stepped forward to donate a portion of her liver. Under the guidance of Dr. Ushast Dhir and his team, the twelve-hour transplant procedure was performed successfully. In this video, Dr. Ushast Dhir, Chairman of liver transplant and hepatobiliary at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital talks about:
1. Case History
2. Complications
3. Prognosis
