65 Medical Colleges Yet to Submit MBBS Intern Stipend Details to NMC: RTI
Around 65 medical colleges across the country have not submitted details of stipends paid to MBBS interns to the National Medical Commission (NMC), according to a recent RTI reply from the Union Health Ministry.
The commission has yet to take action against these defaulting colleges.
The information came to light through an RTI response from the Health Ministry dated January 19. The ministry clarified that, as per the Supreme Court’s directions, the compilation of undergraduate internship stipend details is to be done by the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), a part of the NMC. However, about 65 colleges have still not complied and have failed to submit the required data in the last six months.

HC Upholds Hospital's Seniority-Based Sponsorship, Denies Relief to Government Doctor
Denying the grant of relief to a government doctor seeking a No Objection Certificate and study leave to pursue a postgraduate course in Nuclear Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh, the Delhi High Court recently upheld the decision of the authorities to give priority to seniority while deciding which candidate should get the only sponsorship slot.
The concerned doctor challenged the Office Memorandum dated 19 December 2025 that refused him an NOC and study leave for pursuing his PG medical studies at PGIMER Chandigarh.

Delhi Man Takes HIV Preventive Drugs on AI advice, Condition Critical
A Delhi-based man is reportedly in a critical condition after consuming HIV preventive medication based on guidance received from an artificial intelligence (AI) platform, renewing concerns over self-medication and the growing reliance on digital tools for medical advice.
As per available information, the individual allegedly began taking HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) drugs without consulting a qualified healthcare professional. Shortly after initiating the medication, he developed serious health complications and had to be admitted to a hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical. The adverse reaction is suspected to be linked to the unsupervised use of the drugs.
