NMC warns hospitals, medical colleges: Submit details for temporary registration of foreign practitioners

New Delhi: Taking note of the fact that some of the registered hospitals/medical colleges/institutes have not yet uploaded the required information regarding the Fellowship programs being run by them on their official website, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now issued a warning to the medical colleges, clarifying that it may cause a delay in processing the applications for temporary registration of the Foreign Medical Practitioners they have sponsored.

The Apex Medical Commission has clearly mentioned that the "onus of such rejection would squarely lie with the Sponsoring institute" and therefore asked the institutes to ensure that all the necessary details are available on their website, for online verification by the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the Commission.

West Bengal passes 'Aparajita' Bill, death penalty and swift justice for rape offenders

The West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed the Aparajita Woman and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, on September 3, 2024, aimed at strengthening laws against rape and sexual offences.

Amid noisy scenes, the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Tuesday unanimously passed the stringent Aparajita Woman and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2024, that recommends, among other provisions, a death penalty for a rapist in the event of a victim's death.

Final-Year MBBS student jumps to Death from hostel building in Chennai

In an unfortunate incident, a final-year medical student of Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of her hostel building.

The 23-year-old student, also a trainee doctor at the institute was reportedly suffering from depression due to relationship issues with a fellow medical student. It is suspected that she may have taken the drastic step as her relationship was on the brink of ending.

GMC Baramulla doctor's registration suspended for dereliction of duty and incompetence

Describing his actions as “delinquent” and “incompetent, the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) on Monday suspended the registration of Dr Ishtiyaq Abdullah, Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for one year for neglecting his duty at the hospital, engaging in private practices and more.

This action was taken based on the enquiry committee’s report which stated that Dr Abdullah during his appearance before the committee acknowledged that he had not been regularly attending his official duties at GMC Baramulla and was unable to defend his case. The report also highlighted his surgical incompetence, which has been conclusively proven.
