Medical negligence complaints require another doctor's opinion, IPC 304A quashed, says HC
In a recent judgment, the Jharkhand High Court has stated that a private complaint accusing a doctor of medical negligence cannot be entertained unless prima facie evidence is being produced in the form of credible opinion of another doctor to support the negligence of the accused doctor.
Reiterating the legal precedence set by the Supreme Court in this regard in the cases of Jacob Mathew v. State of Punjab, and Martin F. D’ Souza v. Md. Ishfaq, the Jharkhand High Court observed,

BHU doctors successfully remove 25 paise coin stuck in man's trachea for 8 years
Doctors at Sri Sundarlal Hospital in Banaras Hindu University (SSH, BHU) successfully performed a rare surgery to remove a 25 paise coin lodged in the trachea (windpipe) of a 40-year-old man for the past eight years.
A team of doctors led by cardio-thoracic surgeon Prof Siddharth Lakhotia and Prof SK Mathur removed the coin from the trachea in a procedure that lasted for 20 minutes on Tuesday.

First-ever guideline to help adults quit tobacco released by WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released its first-ever guidelines to help adults quit smoking, recommending a combination of digital cessation programs, behavioural support, and medication.
With one in five adults worldwide consuming tobacco products, the guidelines aim to address the needs of the 750 million users who want to quit but have limited access to effective cessation services. The recommended treatments include counselling, habit-changing techniques, dedicated apps, nicotine replacement therapy, and medications such as varenicline, bupropion, and cytisine. WHO emphasized that the most effective approach combines behavioural support with pharmacotherapy.
Health Ministry issues advisory to states amid rising Zika Virus cases in Maharashtra
The Health Ministry has issued a Zika Virus advisory for all states and UTs to take steps to maintain vigilance for cases of the Zika virus after the detection of cases in Maharashtra.
In view of some reported cases of Zika virus from Maharashtra, Dr Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory to States highlighting the need for maintaining a state of constant vigil over the Zika virus situation in the country, states the press release issued by the government.
