ICMR says labels could be misleading: 'Sugar-free foods could have hidden sugars'
Whenever you buy food products, you likely check the price, but do you pay attention to the ingredients listed on the label? The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has highlighted the importance of reading food labels thoroughly, as they can be misleading. In its recent guidelines, ICMR pointed out that products labeled as sugar-free, perceived as beneficial for diabetics and weight-watchers, can actually be loaded with fats, refined cereals, and hidden sugars, contributing to a high glycaemic index and high calories.
Similarly, labels claiming "no-cholesterol" or "heart-friendly" can be deceptive. ICMR noted that while plant-based oils do not contain cholesterol, they are 100% fat and should be consumed in moderation.
Delhi hospital fire: Court rejects bail plea of on-duty doctor
Considering the potential for the accused to evade legal proceedings and the gravity of the allegations, a Delhi court here on Monday dismissed the bail plea of an on-duty Ayurveda Doctor who was arrested in connection with the New Born Baby Care hospital fire case where seven newborns were killed and five injured on May 25.
While dismissing the bail plea, the court observed that the chances of the accused fleeing the process of law cannot be ruled out. It said no logical reason was given why despite being an ayurvedic doctor, the accused was working in the most critical ward of the facility.
