West Bengal: Hospital skips WBCERC hearing, slapped fine
The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has taken strict action against Bhagirathi Neotia Hospital for its absence at a scheduled commission hearing. The hospital has been penalized and directed to pay Rs 5,000 each to three involved parties: the complainant, Bellevue Nursing Home, and Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, all of whom were present during the hearing.

DCI gives deadline to dental colleges to upload PG dental admissions, warns against incorrect information
In a pivotal development, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has outlined and communicated a fresh set of directives to various dental colleges concerning the admission protocols for MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) and PG Diploma Courses for the academic session 2023-24. The Dental Council of India (DCI) directed the dental colleges to upload the details of candidates admitted to their dental institution for 2023-24 on the DCI website by a deadline of 20th October 2023.

Syrup samples of 2 pharma companies in TN, Gujarat found to have contaminants
Samples of syrups manufactured by two pharmaceutical companies based in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have been found to have contaminants ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, which were earlier detected in some syrups that were allegedly linked to deaths in the Gambia, Uzbekistan and Cameroon since last year, officials said.
These are among 48 drugs, samples of which were declared as "not of standard quality" and "spurious" by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), out of a total of 1,166 samples tested in August.

Changing medical treatment plan does not imply medical negligence: NCDRC exonerates Apollo Hospital, cardiologist
Noting that every procedure related complication cannot be considered a result of malpractice unless it was caused by medical negligence, and that all medical procedures have some level of risk, particularly those involving the heart, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has dismissed a complaint against Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and Medical Devices India Pvt Ltd alleging negligence and malpractice in pacemaker implantation in a patient from Ethiopia who eventually died.
