Insurers cannot arbitrarily reject claims after Doctor-advised treatment, surgery: Kerala HC
The Kerala High Court bench recently ruled that once an insured person has undergone treatment or surgery based on the expert opinion of a doctor, the insurer cannot arbitrarily reject the claim.
According to the HC bench comprising Justice P.M. Manoj, denial of an insurance claim for medical treatment amounts to a violation of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution. It denies treatment and infringes upon a citizen's fundamental right to life and health.

9-year-old girl's arm amputation: 2 Palakkad Hospital doctors suspended
In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence at Palakkad District Hospital, the parents of a 9-year-old girl have accused the doctors of improper treatment after she was admitted with a broken bone in her right arm. What began as a simple fracture later led to the amputation at Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Kozhikode. Following an inquiry, the state health department has suspended two junior doctors in connection with the incident.
According to the parents, the child was being treated at the district hospital for a fracture in her right arm. The doctors had put her arm in a plaster cast, but the parents alleged it was not done properly. They also claimed that the doctors did not check the blood flow after plastering, which caused complications, leading her arm to swell and turn discoloured.

NEET PG: Bihar Eases Bond Service Duration and Penalty Rules
Bringing relief to the postgraduate medical aspirants, the Bihar Government has decided to reduce the mandatory bond service period for NEET PG doctors from three years to two years, Careers 360 has reported.
Furthermore, the State has also decided to offer relief to the doctors in terms of recovery for violating bond service rules. The decision in this regard was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Officials said that as per the State Government's decision, if a doctor skips the two-year service, the government will now recover only the bond amount, not the salary or stipend received during training, Careers 360 has reported.

NEET PG: Bihar reduces bond service tenure, eases penalty rule
Consumer Court exonerates Lucknow hospital, doctor of medical negligence in bedsore death case
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) recently exonerated a Lucknow-based hospital and doctor from charges of medical negligence during the treatment of a 75-year-old patient.
Earlier, the State Consumer Court had held the hospital and its management guilty for faulty nursing care resulting in the development of bedsores in the patient. However, while considering the hospital's appeal against the State Commission's order, the Apex Consumer Court observed that the patient, who had diabetes for the past several years and hypertension for 40 years, was in a critical health condition and was admitted after having suffered three strokes, cardiac problems.
