Ludhiana hospital, doctor fined for excision without CT scan and no informed consent
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Ludhiana recently directed a city-based Hospital and its managing director to pay Rs 3 lakh as compensation for negligence in treating a four-year-old girl. The Commission noted that the doctor did not obtain informed consent from the patient's family and experimented with an excision of the child's cyst casually and negligently which resulted in the rupturing of the Occipital Cranium and fluid started oozing out through the duct.
The history of the case goes back to 2017, when the 4-year-old patient was suffering from headache and her father took her to the Hans Maternity Home where she was checked by Paediatrician Dr. Chakarwarti. From there, the patient was referred to the treating hospital- Singla Hospital. It was alleged by the complainant that the hospital and its managing director Dr. Singla operated upon the patient without conducting any scan, x-ray etc after a telephone discussion with Dr Chakarwarti.

Calcutta High Court seeks NTA’s response on alleged irregularities in NEET UG 2024
Considering a plea alleging various irregularities in the NEET 2024 examination, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to file an affidavit within 10 days in response.
Issuing the notice to the agency, in charge of conducting NEET, a Division Bench presided over by Justice Apurba Sinha Ray also asked the NTA to disclose in its affidavit as to how the reservation policy of the State as well as the Central Government has been followed in preparing the merit list.

ICMR issues new salt intake guidelines after discovering similar sodium levels in all salts
ICMR's recent findings on salt consumption have prompted a call for a re-evaluation of dietary habits among Indians. The health body's analysis revealed consistent sodium levels across various types of salt, challenging the assumption that certain varieties like rock salt are healthier alternatives.
With excess sodium intake being linked to health issues like high blood pressure, ICMR has issued revised guidelines advocating for a daily salt limit of 5 grams, emphasizing moderation across all types of salt.
Doctors extend support to NEET aspirants, urge NTA and NMC for fresh investigation
The medical fraternity has extended its support to the NEET aspirants as doctors have now written to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) demanding proper investigations in the allegations of paper leak in the exam.
While All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) has demanded a fair investigation into the alleged irregularities in the MBBS entrance exam, Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) has called for a CBI inquiry into the matter.
