NMC MARB Lifts 100-Seat Cap on MBBS Intake Increases for 2026-27
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now removed the cap earlier imposed on medical colleges regarding the increase of MBBS seats.
In December 2025, NMC, while inviting applications for setting up new medical colleges intending to start MBBS courses, or for an increase in UG seats intake capacity, had clarified that "An applicant can apply for increase in intake of maximum of 100 seats at a time."

NMC Mandates Medical Colleges to Submit MBBS 2025-26 Admission Data
In an attempt to ensure that all MBBS admissions have been made while adhering to the rules and regulations, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently directed all the medical colleges/institutes to submit the details of the students who got admitted in the MBBS course during the academic year 2025-26.
Writing to the Principals of the medical colleges in the country, the NMC board referred to the Online monitoring system that has been launched for this purpose. "In order to effectively monitor that all MBBS admissions made are in conformity with the requirement of Regulations, an online monitoring system has been launched by the Commission. This initiative is made with the objective of ensuring faithful adherence to the norms of admission laid down in Regulations as also to further promote transparency and accountability in the medical education," the notice read.

Over 300 Doctors seek FAIMA Mental Health Helpline in 4 months
Doctors and Medical students across the country are reeling under mental health issues.
This has come to light once again, as members of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) have informed that more than 300 doctors across India have availed the Mental Health Helpline of FAIMA within a few months of its launch.
The majority of the doctors and students who availed this service were suffering exam (NEET PG, NEET SS) related stress. Further junior resident doctors were found to be overworked, and they were dealing with several other issues. Meanwhile, senior doctors had issues in their service and they also had interpersonal relationship problems. Some of the female doctors reported on pregnancy-related issues.

FAIMA Helpline Sees 300+ Doctor Suicides and Stress Calls in Months
Cases of doctors being targeted in cyber fraud cases are becoming more frequent. Recently, a Kompally-based 40-year-old doctor allegedly lost Rs 4.7 crore in a fake stock market investment after being promised high returns.
Over a period of 60 days, the doctor reportedly transferred Rs 4.7 crore to the fraudsters through 46 online transactions and six cash deposits, with the money routed to 24 different current accounts. Out of the total amount, the doctor managed to withdraw only Rs 1 lakh before the fraudsters blocked further withdrawals.
