Doctor does not remove healthy appendix, still directed to pay compensation

In a judgment that may raise many eyebrows across the medical fraternity, a Gujarat based doctor has recently been directed to pay compensation to a patient as he did not remove a healthy appendix.

The case was that of an open and shut surgery, where when the doctor put the patient under knife found that the appendix was not inflamed and hence decided not to remove it.

Ladakh's first medical college set to begin academic session next year

With an aim to commence the classes in the first medical college of Ladakh from 2022, the Ladakh Government has ramped up the work for completion of the pre-fabricated structures of the institute.

The directions regarding this have been given to the officials during a meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary (Health and Medical Education Department) Dr Pawan Kotwal, who directed officials to ensure completion of pre-fabricated structures for the academic block of the new medical college in Leh, adds PTI.

NEET PG 2021: SC allows OCI candidates to appear in General Category Counselling

In an enormous relief to all the eligible candidates belonging to the Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), the Supreme Court has allowed them to participate in the general category of NEET and NEET PG counselling for the 2021-22 academic year MBBS, BDS, MD, MS and MDS admissions.

This has come as interim relief to the OCI petitioners to participate in the NEET 2021 general category counselling considering the notification that was earlier issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had insisted they be treated at par with NRIs only.

Govt to amend New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules to add cell derived products as new drugs

Through a recent notification, in order to amend the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a draft suggesting to add cell-derived products under the definition of a new drug.

Cell-based human medicinal products (CBMPs) may contain autologous or allogeneic cells, and may or may not include genetically modified cells, as well as cells that have been linked with a device, a scaffold, or a mesh.
