Tamil Nadu Assembly to Pass Resolutions Opposing NEET, Seeks Changes in Central Laws
Tamil Nadu is set to pass a separate resolution in the Legislative Assembly opposing NEET and urging the Centre to abolish the uniform entrance exam for undergraduate medical admissions. Health Minister Ma Subramanian will move the resolution, which argues that NEET affects social justice and equality, particularly for rural, Tamil-medium and economically disadvantaged students. It also criticises the growing dependence on costly coaching centres and the pressure placed on students. The resolution cites repeated paper leaks and examination irregularities, including the cancellation and re-examination of NEET-UG 2026, saying these incidents have caused distress among lakhs of students and weakened public confidence.
The Assembly will urge the Centre to amend relevant central laws, including the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, to discontinue NEET. Tamil Nadu has proposed using Class 12 marks for medical admissions in the state. The resolution also recalls the Tamil Nadu Admission to Undergraduate Medical Degree Courses Bill, 2021, which sought exemption from NEET but has not received presidential assent. The move renews Tamil Nadu's long-standing opposition to the national medical entrance examination, according to an India Today report.
NEET PG 2026 City Intimation Slip Releasing Today: Here's How to Download
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is scheduled to release the NEET PG 2026 exam city intimation slip today, August 11, according to the official timeline. Candidates will be able to download the slip from the official NBEMS website by entering their login details. The city slip will inform candidates about their allotted examination city ahead of the NEET PG 2026 exam, which is scheduled for August 30 in computer-based mode. The admit card will be released separately before the examination, reports NDTV.
NEET PG 2026 is being conducted for admission to MD, MS and PG Diploma courses for the 2026-27 academic session, covering 50% All India Quota, state quota, private and deemed medical colleges, and DNB and NBEMS diploma programmes. Candidates can download the city slip by visiting the NBEMS website, selecting the relevant link and entering their credentials. AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST are excluded from centralised NEET PG admissions. The NEET PG 2026 result is scheduled to be declared by September 30.
NEET SS Counselling 2025: MCC Announces 2,423 Clear, 5,605 Virtual Vacancies
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the clear and virtual vacancy seat matrices for Round 2 of the NEET SS Counselling 2025 covering DM, MCh and DrDNB SS courses, giving candidates a fresh picture of the seats that may be available for allotment.
Alongside the vacancy lists, MCC has also added 6 newly approved super speciality seats at IPGMER Kolkata, which candidates can now include while filling their Round 2 choices.

Boy Dies During Nasal Surgery: Consumer Court issues notices in Rs 7 crore Negligence Case
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Kolkata (Unit 1), has issued notices to a Chennai-based senior ENT specialist, Anesthetist, and the Hospital in a Rs 7.02 Crore negligence case.
It has been alleged that while undergoing a minor nasal surgery at the Chennai-based ENT hospital, the boy died on the OT table due to “Malignant hyperthermia (MH)” allegedly from a drug reaction.
