NMC Vacancies Delaying Medical Admissions, Students Worst Affected: Amicus Tells Supreme Court
The central government's failure to fill up key statutory posts in the National Medical Commission (NMC) is resulting in recurring delays in medical admissions, approvals, inspections, and appeals, a Supreme Court-appointed amicus curiae said in its report, the Times of India has reported.
According to the amicus curiae, the persistent vacancies at NMC are causing these delays, and as a result, the academic calendars are being disrupted, ultimately affecting the students.

30 JIPMER PG Medicos Sought Psychiatric Care in 2025: RTI Data
A total of 30 postgraduate medical students had to seek psychiatric consultation at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, a Right to Information (RTI) reply has revealed.
The RTI was filed by activist J. Swamidass, who shared the data on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Filing the RTI application with the Department of Psychiatry of JIPMER, Swamidass had sought to know the number of postgraduate students who took psychiatric counselling in 2025- from January till December.

Kerala Man Tests Positive for Nipah in Preliminary Test
A 43-year-old man undergoing treatment at Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, has tested positive for Nipah virus infection in a preliminary examination, officials said on Thursday.
The patient's sample has been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmation, and the results are expected shortly.
