Karnataka High Court orders restoration of The Liver Doctor's 'X' account

Modifying a trial court order, the Karnataka High Court has allowed Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips a.k.a. The Liver Doctor to access his X (formerly Twitter) account.

However, the HC bench comprising Justice SG Pandit passed this order after obtaining an undertaking from Dr. Philips to hide the alleged defamatory tweets against Himalaya Wellness Corporation and its products.

However, the doctor's counsel Senior Advocate Aditya Sondhi clarified that the undertaking is without prejudice to his contentions, adds Live Law. "This Liv52 product is banned in US," he said.

100 MBBS seats for 10 lakh population ratio: NMC stands by its decision, issues statement

Amidst opposition, the National Medical Commission has stood by its decision to cap the number of MBBS seats in a particular State/UT by prescribing 100 MBBS seats per 10 lakh population ratio.

Issuing a Press Release in this regard, the Apex Medical Commission has informed that this decision was taken after considering the observations of various courts regarding the crowding of medical colleges.

UP govt approves proposal to increase retirement age of doctors to 65 years

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to increase the retirement age of government doctors in the state from 62 years to 65 years.

However, the decision taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will not be applicable to senior medical officers posted at the administrative level, an official statement said.

The cabinet gave its nod to the proposal to increase the superannuation (retirement) age of doctors working under the Provincial Medical and Health Services cadre, it said.

Supreme Court orders AIIMS to postpone termination of 26-week pregnancy"

The Supreme Court Tuesday directed AIIMS, Delhi to defer medical termination of 26-week pregnancy of a married woman who was allowed to abort the foetus a day before by another bench.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, sought recall of the order passed by a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and BV Nagarathna on Monday.

The law officer said the termination of pregnancy was recommended despite the medical board saying that the foetus had a viable chance of being born and “they would have to conduct a foeticide”.
