The Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020 do not allow registered medical practitioners to sign Pathology and Radiology lab reports via remote authentication without physical presence and supervision, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has said.
Offering clarification regarding the scope of the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020 to remote authentication of RMPs for Pathology and Radiology lab reports, NMC responded to a Right to Information (RTI) application mentioning that the guidelines do not address the use of telemedicine for remotely operated invasive or surgical procedures.
The Supreme Court yesterday asked the Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir Governments to virtually appear on March 7 and explain the reason for their failure to take action against misleading medical advertisements.
While considering a contempt plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the top court bench Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan also sought an explanation from them asking why they have not filed affidavits in terms of the Court's earlier orders regarding the enforcement of Rule 170 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) recently invited applications from Hospitals/Medical Institutions/Medical Colleges for accreditation to Post MBBS Diploma courses (January / February 2025 Cycle). In this regard, NBE has issued a notification detailing the Guidelines for Accredited Hospitals informing about the amount of stipend for NBE trainees.
NBEMS administers Post MBBS two-year Diploma courses in the 9 Broad specialties Anesthesiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Family Medicine, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Radio Diagnosis, Tuberculosis & Chest Disease and Emergency Medicine.

In a recent development, a group of doctors has submitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Calcutta High Court, demanding the reinstatement of Dr Manas Chakraborty as the registrar of the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) until a new registrar is appointed.
In the plea filed on Monday before the Division Bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, the doctors urged the court to allow Dr Chakraborty to continue in his role to prevent disruptions in the Council’s operations. The petitioners argued that his absence is affecting the Council’s regular functioning, including crucial administrative work.
