FMGs must clear FMGE, complete CRMI to match Indian medical graduates, informs MoS Health
The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) and the mandatory internship are required for the medical graduates from abroad to bring parity with the Indian Medical Graduates, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt Anupriya Patel, stated.
Minister Patel provided this clarification while responding to the queries raised by Parliament member Smt. Renuka Chowdhury, who sought to know about the detailed procedure prescribed for Indian students who pursue medical education in foreign countries and subsequently return to India to practice medicine, the manner in which the compulsory internship is regulated for FMGs before granting them a licence to practice.

PGI Chandigarh Resident Doctors Allege 30-Day Non-Stop Shifts, No Weekly Offs
Despite its earlier directive to optimise the duty hours of resident doctors and ensure that they have at least one weekly off, the resident doctors at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, have alleged that the reality of their working conditions has not changed much.
It has been alleged that the doctors are still working for 30 days at a stretch, without any weekly off, and during their duties in the emergency ward, the duty hours often stretch longer than 12 hours, depending on the severity of the cases.

Supreme Court sets deadline for Maharashtra Medical Council elections
The Supreme Court of India has ordered to hold the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) elections within three months.
Issuing directions in this regard to a newly appointed returning officer (RO), the Apex Court bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and R Mahadevan said that the process would start from the beginning by the concerned RO while following all the required processes mandated by the law.

Supreme Court gives deadline to hold Maharashtra Medical Council elections
Consumer Court Dismisses Spine Surgery Negligence Case, Clears Ludhiana Hospital and Neurosurgeon
Observing that there was no medical negligence or deficiency in service during the spine treatment of a patient, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC), Punjab, recently exonerated a Ludhiana-based hospital and neurosurgeon.
The history of the case goes back to 2013 when the complainant was having backache with pain in bilateral lower limb and weakness in right foot and was diagnosed with “PIVD L5-S1 with Grade-I Spondylolisthesis”. He was admitted to the treating hospital on 28.05.2013 for treatment of the said ailment, where he was thoroughly examined and underwent transforminal lumbar interbody fusion on the same day by the Senior Consultant doctor.
