The 365-day Mental Health Redressal Helpline (MHRH), launched by the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), has revealed disturbing accounts by junior as well as senior doctors battling depression and even suicidal thoughts, highlighting the silent struggles within the medical fraternity.

Medical Dialogues reported that to prevent suicide and promote mental well-being among medical professionals, FAIMA launched this dedicated year-round helpline to support doctors, medical students, and healthcare workers facing stress and mental health challenges.

Maharashtra: Over 30,000 NHM employees strike over pending demands

Healthcare services across Maharashtra remain severely disrupted as more than 30,000 contractual employees and officers under the National Health Mission (NHM) remain on an indefinite strike that has now entered its 23rd day. In Pune alone, nearly 1,400 NHM workers, including both technical and non-technical staff, have joined the protest.

The protest, which began on August 19, 2025, is spearheaded by the NHM Coordination Committee and centres around 18 key demands. The primary demand is the implementation of a government resolution concerning the regularisation and salary revision of long-serving contract workers.

18 quacks busted for illegal practice in Telangana

As the number of fake doctors continues to rise at an alarming rate in the state, the Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC) recently caught 18 quacks practising allopathy during raids conducted across multiple locations in a single day.

These unregistered medical practitioners were found treating patients illegally- without a medical degree, registration, or even basic knowledge of allopathy. They were found prescribing medicines as well as administering antibiotics, steroids, and pain-relieving injections.

Child obesity surpasses underweight cases worldwide, warns UNICEF Report

A recent UNICEF report revealed that for the first time, more school-age children and adolescents worldwide were obese than underweight, affecting 188 million young people globally. The study, covering data from over 190 countries, showed that obesity rates exceeded underweight in every region except sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Over the past 25 years, the number of overweight children doubled from 194 million to 391 million, with a significant portion classified as obese. The highest obesity rates were recorded in Pacific Island nations and high-income countries like Chile, the United States, and the UAE also reported concerning figures.

UNICEF linked the rise to aggressive marketing and increased consumption of ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, replacing healthier options such as fruits and vegetables. While underweight rates decreased to 9.2%, undernutrition remained an issue for children under five in developing countries. The report urged governments worldwide to implement policies that promote healthy diets, restrict junk food marketing, and improve access to nutritious food for children's growth and development.
