Lack of Expert opinion to prove deficiency: Consumer Court Exonerates Pediatrician from Medical Negligence charges
Taking note of the fact that no expert opinion was placed in the record on the behalf of the complainant to prove medical negligence against the Pediatrician, the Odisha State Consumer Court exonerated the doctor and hospital from the charges of medical negligence in a case concerning a newborn baby, who developed Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in eyes after birth.
The clean chit for the doctor and hospital came after the Commission also took note of the fact that "there are several reasons for R.O.P. and no expert opinion is available."

Doctors oppose animal use in PG pharmacology and physiology courses, write to NMC
Claiming that using animals is unnecessary for routine teaching and training of PG pharmacology and physiology courses, more than 60 doctors have approached the National Medical Commission (NMC) and have requested the Commission to ensure that animals are replaced by more effective, human-relevant techniques in PG courses.
This comes as a response to the draft Postgraduate (PG) Medical Education Regulations 2021, released by the National Medical Commission (NMC), which mandates the use of animals in teaching and training of PG pharmacology and physiology courses, reports IANS.

ICMR designs kit to detect new COVID-19
Amid rising cases of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Dibrugarh, Assam has designed a testing kit that will be able to detect the virus in two hours time.
The development has come at a time when the Omicron variant is making its presence felt in various states, with at least 33 cases being detected in the country so far.

With NMC nod, MBBS seats in CMC Ludhiana increased to 100
The Christian Medical College, CMC Ludhiana, will now offer the MBBS course in 100 seats as the institute has got the nod from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for increasing its intake capacity from 75 to 100.
The confirmation regarding this came from the announcement made by the principal of the medical college, Professor Jeyaraj D Pandian, adds Hindustan Times.
