Active Covid cases in India highest in 216 days
According to the Union health ministry data updated on Thursday, India logged 2.47 lakh new Covid cases, 27 percent jump from yesterday while the active cases rose to 11,17,531.
NMC specifies new starting date, duration for PG medical academic year 2021
Clarifying on the impartation period of PG medical Degree and Diploma courses, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has notified about the commencement of the academic year 2021 and the stipulated time span for their completion.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations 2000, drafted by the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI), now National Medical Commission, as amended from time to time, stipulates the date of starting of the academic session as well as the duration of Postgraduate medical courses being offered across the country.

ICMR issues new guidelines for COVID-19 tests
The Indian Council of Medical Research issued an advisory on 10th January titled, "Purposive Testing Strategy for COVID-19 in India", where it laid down guidelines on who may or may not get tested for Covid-19 amidst the rising cases in India presently.
Under community settings, symptomatic individuals; at-risk contacts, i.e elderly and individuals with co-morbidity such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic lung or kidney disease, malignancy, obesity etc, of laboratory confirmed cases; individuals undertaking international travel, and international travelers arriving at Indian airports/seaports/ports of entries are required to get tested for Covid-19.

ICMR issues new guidelines for COVID-19 tests
PM Modi Inaugurates 11 New Medical Colleges In Tamil Nadu
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated 11 new medical colleges and a new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Tamil Nadu today through video conference. Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Dr L Murugan and Dr Bharati Pawar, Chief Minister Tamil Nadu Thiru M.K.Stalin were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that with the inauguration of 11 medical colleges and the inauguration of the new building of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil health of the society is being furthered and at the same time our connection with our culture is getting stronger.
