Criminal Medical Negligence Complaints May Not Be Entertained Without Credible Expert Opinion: Kerala HC
Dismissing a plea filed by a patient, who had accused a gynaecologist and a nurse of medical negligence during the delivery of her child leading to the death of the baby, the Kerala High Court has recently clarified that complaints concerning medical negligence may not be entertained unless a credible opinion supporting such a claim could be produced by the complainant.
Observing that the complainant couldn't produce any such evidence, the HC bench comprising of Justice Kauser Edappagath dismissed the plea and clarified, "...a private complaint alleging medical negligence may not be entertained unless the complainant has produced prima facie evidence before the court in the form of a credible opinion given by another competent doctor to support the charge of rashness or negligence on the part of the accused doctor."

AstraZeneca COVID Antibody Combination To Be Manufactured By Samsung Biologics
British-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca on Tuesday said that Samsung Biologics, the biotech arm of Samsung Group, will manufacture its antibody combination against Covid-19.
Under an agreement valued at approximately $380 million, Samsung Biologics will manufacture Evusheld -- AstraZeneca's combination of two long-acting antibodies in development for the potential treatment of Covid-19 -- at its plant in Songdo, Incheon, 40 km west of Seoul, Yonhap news agency reported.

Indian Immunologicals Donates Oxygen Generation Plant Worth Rs 1 Crore To TIMS
Vaccine maker Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) has donated a PSA Oxygen Generation Plant to a dedicated Covid-19 hospital, Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS).
IIL had facilitated the setup of an Oxygen Generation Plant at TIMS and this Oxygen plant works on the principle of Pressure Swing Adsorption and enables efficient distribution of Oxygen for the needy patients, Hyderabad based IIL said in release here on Monday.

Heavy Penalty Will Be Imposed On Erring Private Medical Colleges: Karnataka Govt On Surrender Of Seats
The State Health and Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, Minister K Sudhakar has promised to take strict action to take "strict measures" against private medical colleges who are allegedly surrendering seats for their benefit.
Such an assurance has come from the State Health Minister while he was responding to a question from BJP member N Ravikumar in the Legislative Council.

Healthtech Startup Pristyn Care Raises Around Rs 730 Crore In Series E Funding, Turns Unicorn
Healthtech startup Pristyn Care on Wednesday announced it has raised $96 million (around Rs 730 crore) in its Series E round, doubling its valuation in the last seven months to $1.4 billion and becoming a unicorn.
The latest round was led by Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global, Winter Capital, Epiq Capital, Hummingbird Ventures and Trifecta Capital.
