Maharashtra: 28 cases of zika virus reported, highest ever
Maharashtra has reported its highest ever number of Zika virus cases this year, with the total reaching 28. Three new cases were recently confirmed in Pune city, bringing the city's total to 24. The new patients include a 27-year-old woman from Kothrud, a 49-year-old man from Lohegaon, and a 14-year-old girl from Tulshibaug Colony. Each presented with symptoms such as fever, rash, and body aches, and their diagnoses were confirmed by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.
Since June 20, Pune has seen a significant rise in Zika cases, including ten pregnant women among the infected. The infection has been actively transmitted in various wards, suggesting local transmission through infected Aedes mosquitoes, which also spread dengue and chikungunya.
NMC completes review of 1675 applications for new PG medical courses, intake increase
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now completed processing all the 1675 applications for starting new postgraduate medical courses and increase of PG medical seats in the existing courses.
NMC completed the process after communicating its final decision on the remaining 297 applications received from more than 73 medical institutes across the country.

Maharashtra: MBBS interns at private medical colleges to receive Rs 18k stipend now
Bringing good news to the MBBS students undergoing internship at the private medical colleges in the State, the State Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has issued a recent directive stating that the interns from the private medical colleges should be paid a stipend of Rs 18,000 per month.
Issuing a directive in this regard on July 10, DMER asked the private medical colleges in Maharashtra to submit a details report regarding stipends. The State issued the directive when the parents of the medical students, on the other hand, claimed that barring one or two medical institutes, the private medical colleges in Maharashtra never paid its interns "a decent amount", TOI has reported.

Cipla receives Rs 773 crore demand notice from IT Department
Pharmaceutical giant Cipla has disclosed that it has received a demand notice amounting to Rs 773.44 crore from the Income Tax Department. The notice pertains to the assessment years spanning from 2015-16 to 2022-23.
The Rs 773.44-crore demand excludes any refund in any of the above-mentioned assessment years, the Company stated in a BSE filing.
