Baby-selling, kidney trafficking racket busted: Tamil Nadu Gynaecologist arrested

Busting a baby-selling and kidney trafficking racket in Tamil Nadu, the Tiruchengode police have arrested an obstetrician-gynaecologist and a broker for allegedly selling newborns to poor childless couples at Rs 5,000 for boys and Rs 3,000 for girls across the state.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramaniyan in Chennai speaking on the incident assured that after a thorough investigation, legal and department-wise action will be taken against those who indulge in infant selling and kidney trafficking.

No stipend to MBBS interns is bonded labour: Supreme Court slams NMC

Expressing grave concerns regarding the issue of non-payment of stipends to the MBBS interns across the country, the Supreme Court on Monday termed it as "bonded labour".

While considering the matter, the Apex Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra also pulled up the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the delay in furnishing its reply on the plea that alleged that 70 per cent of medical colleges in the country do not pay any stipend to MBBS interns.

NBE gives last opportunity for qualified candidates to collect their FMGE pass certificates, details

Through a recent notice, NBE (National Board of Examination) has informed to All Candidates who are declared qualified in Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) to collect their issued FMGE Pass Certificates after in-person verification of identity and documents prescribed towards eligibility for examination.

It has been noted that some candidates have failed to collect their FMGE Pass certificates on their assigned schedules or even thereafter.

Cannot direct doctors to stop unborn's heartbeat; Postpartum Psychosis can be managed: SC refuses 26 weeks MTP

The Supreme Court on Monday said that it is averse to issuing a direction to doctors to stop the unborn's heartbeat while allowing the Centre's application to recall its earlier order to allow termination of pregnancy.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, also comprising Justice JB Pardiwala, observed that if a medical termination were to be conducted at this stage, the doctors would be faced with a viable foetus.
