NEET-SS Qualifying Percentile May Be Reduced to 30 percent for Special Stray Vacancy Round: Centre Tells SC
After the Supreme Court directed the Centre to reconsider its decision on the NEET SS 2025 cutoff, the Union Government has reportedly agreed to reduce the cutoff, and it may go from the 50th to the 30th percentile for the proposed special stray vacancy round.
Due to this decision, around 6,000 additional candidates will now be eligible to appear in the counselling process for getting admitted to the super-speciality courses.

Foreign Medical Graduates’ Stipend Delay: Supreme Court Seeks Explanation from NMC
The Supreme Court of India recently sought the National Medical Commission's response to the delay in paying stipends to foreign medical graduates from Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Jharkhand.
Observing that there cannot be any disparity between Indian and Foreign Medical Graduates, the Apex Court bench further said that it would pass comprehensive directions to ensure that all undergraduate medical students doing internships, whether they have pursued their education in India or abroad, are paid a stipend.

NEET PG 2026: NMC Issues Discipline-Specific PwBD Guidelines for Admissions
Taking cognisance of the need for a discipline-specific, competency-driven framework to assess PwBD candidates, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the "Guidelines on Assessment of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for Admission to the Post Graduate Medical Courses, 2026."
"The Guidelines shall come into force on the date of its publication by the National Medical Commission," the notification issued by NMC Secretary Dr. Raghav Langer mentioned.

For most medical students, learning to use a stethoscope is a routine part of training. But for a 17-year-old medical aspirant with congenital hearing loss, listening to a patient’s heartbeat and breathing sounds posed a unique challenge. After clearing NEET and securing admission to a government medical college in Gujarat, she found a possible solution in a wireless electronic stethoscope that can transmit body sounds directly to a compatible cochlear implant. She received the implant at the age of four. Unlike a conventional stethoscope, which sends sound through tubing to the ears, an electronic device uses sensors to capture heart and lung sounds and convert them into electronic signals.
The processed sounds can be amplified, filtered and transmitted wirelessly to the cochlear implant system, where they are converted into signals that can be perceived by the user. Experts note that long-term use depends on compatibility between the devices, reliable connectivity and adequate sound quality. Battery dependence, transmission delays and technical failures may also pose challenges. Importantly, students still require extensive training to distinguish normal and abnormal heart and lung sounds. A backup method may also be necessary during clinical practice if the wireless system fails, reports NDTV.
