Madras HC seeks NMC report on 'Gender Identity Disorder' in new MBBS curriculum

The controversy regarding the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) 2024 guidelines continues as the Madras High Court has now expressed concerns about using the term "Gender Identity Disorder" in the new MBBS curriculum.

Taking note of this topic, which falls under the psychiatric competency, the HC bench comprising Justice N. Anand Venkatesh once again clarified that there is no psychological disorder involved in a person belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community and held that "such a mistaken understanding must be corrected by making appropriate changes in the curriculum. Unfortunately, once again the work “disorder” has found its place even in the new curriculum and it has to be immediately removed."

Odisha announces Safe Workplace Policy for HCPs: Panic Buttons, Emergency Phones, Female Security Guards

Amid the nationwide demands to ensure the safety of doctors at their workplace, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has introduced a new policy to provide a safe workplace environment for doctors, students and medicare persons in healthcare & health education institutions.

This new policy, prescribed by the Odisha Health Department for all the healthcare and health education institutes in the State, includes provisions for mandatory ID cards, 24x7 security arrangements, adequate duty rooms and washrooms for on-duty doctors and nurses etc.

West Bengal Medical Council cancels Dr. Sandip Ghosh's registration
After failing to respond to a show cause notice issued to the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh, the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) on Wednesday evening cancelled his medical registration following allegations of his involvement in financial irregularities at the state-run hospital during his tenure.

The show cause notice was issued to Ghosh on September 7 seeking a satisfactory reply. The council had earlier warned him that failure to respond would lead to cancellation of his registration from the council. However, he failed to respond to the notice for over a week.

Man forged prescription of Apollo doctor, FIR registered
A city court has directed Delhi Police to register an FIR against a man who submitted forged medical documents of an Apollo doctor dated September 11 to seek an extension of his interim bail. The court dismissed his plea for an extension, ordering him to surrender before the jail superintendent within one day.
The man identified as Trilok Chand Chaudhary is an accused in a cheating and forgery case registered by the Economic Offence Wing (EoW, South) in the year 2022. The court on Wednesday directed the applicant, Trilok Chand Chaudhary, to surrender before the jail superintendent within one day.
