Maternity leave for PG medicos as per state rules, stipend if not during leave then in extended period: NMC

Through a recent notice, the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of National Medical Commission (NMC) has stated that the matter regarding grant of maternity leave to PG medical students shall be regulated as per respective State Government rules.

Clarifying on the issue of Stipend, the Apex medical commission has mentioned that the students pursuing PG medical courses should be paid stipend for extended period of training, if it has not been provided during the leave period.

Intermittent fasting may not be as helpful for losing weight as once thought, study finds

The frequency and size of meals was a stronger determinant of weight loss or gain than the time between first and last meal, according to new research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open access, peer-reviewed journal of the American Heart Association.

According to the senior study author Wendy L. Bennett, M.D., M.P.H., an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, although ‘time-restricted eating patterns’ - known as intermittent fasting - are popular, rigorously designed studies have not yet determined whether limiting the total eating window during the day helps to control weight.

Clinical establishments providing health care services not liable to pay service tax: CESTAT

Through a recent order, the Delhi Bench of Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) has stated that clinical establishments that provide healthcare services are exempted from paying service tax.

The CESTAT bench expressed this opinion while setting aside an order of the Commissioner of Service Tax, Delhi III, which had issued show-cause notice to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Charitable Trust confirming the demand of service tax under “business auxiliary service” and “renting of immovable property service” with penalty and interest.
