Khyati Hospital Angioplasty Deaths Case: Gujarat Council suspends 2 doctors

Taking strict action against a bariatric surgeon and another doctor, who were allegedly involved in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) angioplasty scam at Khyati Multispecialty Hospital, the Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended their medical registrations for three years.

Among these two doctors, Dr. Sanjay Patoliya, a bariatric surgeon, is one of the Directors of Khyati Hospital, and the other- Dr. Shailesh Anand, is a State Government official overseeing the implementation PM-JAY scheme, TOI has reported. As per the Daily, their suspensions are related to the deaths of two PM-JAY beneficiaries who died after undergoing angioplasty procedures at Khyati Hospital.

NEET SS 2024: NMC allows MS Traumatology and Surgery degree holders to pursue 3 MCh specialities

Doctors holding degrees in MS Traumatology and Surgery can now pursue MCh courses in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

According to the NEET SS 2024 bulletin released by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), MS in Traumatology and Surgery was initially not designated as a qualification for any super-speciality courses- MCh, or DrNB. However, candidates with MS/DNB (General Surgery) are eligible to apply for all three MCh courses, while those with MS/DNB (Otorhinolaryngology) can pursue MCh in Neurosurgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Supreme Court allows AYUSH students admitted without NEET to retain degrees

Granting relief to some of the undergraduate AYUSH students, who were not admitted through the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination, the Supreme Court has allowed them to retain their degrees.

Even though the Apex Court acknowledged that these students had not been admitted through the NEET-UG exam and therefore, their admissions were not valid, it also observed that withholding the exam results of these students would cause "immense hardship" to the students, who have already completed their courses.

Vellore Woman Doctor Gang Rape: Juvenile sentenced to 20 years imprisonment

A 17-year-old convict involved in the 2022 gang rape case of a female doctor was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment by the POSCO Fast Track Court at the Combined Court Complex in Vellore. This comes after a prior conviction in January, when the Fast Track Mahila Court sentenced four other accused to 20 years of imprisonment each and imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on each of them.

Medical dialogues recently reported that the Mahila Court convicted four men for gang-raping a doctor after abducting her in an auto in Katpadi in 2022, sentencing them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The incident had caused political outrage in the state, leading to the opposition parties demanding stringent action on the perpetrators.
