The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare has raised serious concerns over the acute staff shortage at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, and several other top hospitals in the national capital. The committee's latest report, tabled in the Rajya Sabha, highlights a critical shortfall in medical and non-medical staff, calling for immediate recruitment measures to ensure quality healthcare services.
Severe Staff Shortages at AIIMS Delhi
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) to upgrade the postgraduate (PG) qualification of a medical practitioner who completed her MD (Psychiatry) from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).
The writ petition, filed by Dr Geetha G, under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, sought a Writ of Mandamus compelling the Medical council to recognize and update her qualification in its official records.

Health workers in Gujarat have initiated an indefinite strike, seeking resolution of their long-pending issues. On March 18, in Botad, they submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, emphasising their need for justice. In response to the strike, the state government has invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) against the striking health workers.
They warned that if their demands were not met, the union would take stricter action.

A case has been registered against a doctor in Sribhumi district of Assam for allegedly selling an infant to a couple after an unmarried woman gave birth to the child, an official said on Thursday.
A police case has been registered against the doctor, who is currently absconding, she said.
