India Added 48,563 MBBS and 29,080 PG Medical Seats Since 2020: MoS Health
According to the National Medical Commission's data, a total of 48,563 MBBS and 29,080 postgraduate medical seats increased in the country from the Academic Year 2020-2021 to 2025-2026, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt Anupriya Patel, informed the Rajya Sabha recently.
Minister Patel shared the details of the MBBS and PG medical seats that have increased during the last six years.

Illegal BDS admissions: Supreme Court Fines 10 Rajasthan Dental Colleges Rs 10 Crore each for lowering NEET Cutoff
Observing that the State Government does not have the authority to reduce the minimum qualifying percentage in the NEET UG exam, the Supreme Court recently held that such a decision of the Rajasthan Government for admission to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course for the academic year 2016-2017 was completely illegal.
Even though the top court bench held that the BDS admissions were irregular, it granted protection to the degrees of the students who have already completed the BDS course. However, the Apex Court also imposed a Rs 10 crore fine each on 10 private dental colleges and the State Government for diluting the statutory norms governing dental education.

Young doctors who wish to go abroad can do so, but cannot say India lacks Infrastructure: JP Nadda
Speaking on the infrastructure of the country, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda recently called on young doctors to give back to society.
"Young doctors can no longer complain about a lack of facilities or infrastructure in the country," the Health minister stated while urging the medicos to utilise the institutions and resources available instead of blaming deficiencies while opting to go abroad.
Addressing the 21st convocation ceremony of King George's Medical University (KGMU), Nadda said those who wish to go overseas are free to do so, but should not say that facilities or infrastructure are lacking in India.

West Bengal nursing home fined Rs 10 lakh in maternal death case
The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has directed Megacity Nursing Home in North 24 Parganas Barasat, to pay a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh, stating that there is a provision of the same amount of penalty in case medical negligence led to death.
The case goes back 6 years to when a 25-year-old woman who passed away after delivery. The patient, who had been under the doctor’s care since the initial stage of her pregnancy, was admitted to the facility in October 2019 and delivered her baby in the morning.
