NMC notifies final decision on 195 applications to start, increase PG medical seats
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has notified its final decision on 195 more applications for starting new postgraduate medical courses and an increase of PG medical seats in the existing PG medical courses for the academic year 2024-2025.
NMC received these applications from altogether 41 medical colleges. Among these, 139 applications were for starting new PG Medical Courses and 56 applications were for increase of seats in the PG medical courses.

Supreme Court questions MBBS students seeking rural service exemption
Just because a student is pursuing his/her medical education from a private medical college, are they exempted from undergoing the mandatory rural service? The Supreme Court raised this question yesterday i.e. on May 22 while considering a plea in this regard.
Filing the plea, the medical students challenged a notification issued by the Karnataka Government, which made it a mandatory requirement for the medical students to fulfil one year of compulsory public rural service to become eligible for permanent registration with the Karnataka Medical Council.

Health Ministry notifies new guidelines for appointing HoDs in 3 Central govt Hospitals
Through a recent Office Memorandum, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released the new guidelines for appointing the Head of the Department (HoD) in three Central Government Hospitals and Associated Medical Colleges. The Ministry notification comes in continuation of its earlier Office Memorandum dated 28.03.2024 through which, the Ministry had notified about different rules to appoint HoDs in these institutes.
Although previously, the Ministry had mentioned that CHS officers in the Pay Level-13 of Pay Matrix may not be considered to become HoD, the rules have now changed. As per the new guidelines notified on 17th May 2024, if there is no eligible applicant from CHS officers in Pay Level-14, the Selection Committee may invite applications from CHS doctors in Pay level-13 as well.

Nursing officer arrested for sexually harassing doctor at AIIMS-Rishikesh: cops
A video of a police vehicle entering the crowded emergency ward of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh to arrest a nursing officer accused of molesting a female doctor has gone viral on social media.
According to media reports, a nursing officer was suspended and arrested by the police on Tuesday after a junior resident doctor accused him of molesting her on the hospital premises on Sunday.
