Relaxing the existing norms, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has proposed in the newly released Draft Teachers Eligibility Qualifications (TEQ) 2024 Regulations that non-teaching doctors can become assistant and associate professors if they have working experience in a 220-bedded teaching/non-teaching government hospital.

Previously, under the existing TEQ 2022 Regulations, it was required that the non-teaching doctors had working experience at a 330-bed non-teaching hospital.

Karnataka is likely to have 1500 more MBBS seats now that the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has cleared the recommendations made by the Local Inspection Committee (LIC) for increasing the quantum of seats at eight private and 16 state-run medical colleges across the State.

After its recent meeting, the RGUHS syndicate has cleared the recommendations given by the Local Committee to increase the number of MBBS seats at eight private and 16 state-run medical colleges across the State.

Citing lack of substantial evidence to support the criminal charges, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted a six-week interim stay on the ongoing state police investigation against junior doctor Asfakullah Naiya, a prominent figure in the R.G. Kar case movement, who has been accused of misrepresenting his medical qualifications while practising privately at a clinic in Singur.

The case concerns Naiya who has completed his MBBS and is currently pursuing a postgraduate course in ENT. However, the complainant in this case alleged that Naiya falsely claimed to be an ENT surgeon at a private healthcare facility while still undergoing his postgraduate studies.

Rajasthan doctors have given an ultimatum to the State Government threatening to initiate a protest if the Medical Officer Recruitment Exam date is not released by January 26, 2025.

Even though, earlier, the doctors had demanded the release of the exam date by January 20, 2025, there is still no clarity on when the exam will be conducted.
