NMC MARB to Decide New PG Medical Course, Seat Increase Applications Within Six Months: MoS Health
The Central Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that under the National Medical Commission (NMC), Act, 2019, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) is required to approve or disapprove applications for new postgraduate courses and increase in PG seats within six months of receiving them.
In a written reply to an unstarred question by a Rajya Sabha member on the timelines for disposing of applications submitted to the NMC for introducing new PG courses and increasing PG seats, whether the government plans to expedite the scrutiny and approval process before the commencement of the academic session, and the steps taken to ensure time-bound and efficient processing of such applications, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Smt. Anupriya Patel referred to the provisions of Section 28 of the NMC Act, 2019.

Parliamentary Panel Flags Resident Doctors' Mental Health, Seeks Strict Implementation of NTF Action Plans
Expressing concern over unregulated duty hours and inadequate service conditions, which can contribute to mental health challenges among resident doctors, a Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare has recommended the strict and time-bound implementation of action plans formulated by the National Task Force (NTF) pursuant to the Supreme Court's directives.
The Apex Court had constituted the National Task Force after taking suo motu cognisance of the rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

No New H1N1 Variant Detected in India, ICMR Says Amid Rising Cases
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has clarified that Influenza A (H1N1) viruses currently circulating in India belong to the A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1) pdm09-like strain, with no new H1N1 strain detected. The viruses belong to clade, subclade, and have circulated since 2025. ICMR said the circulating strains remain well matched with vaccine strains recommended for the Northern Hemisphere and stressed that seasonal influenza is mostly self-limiting. Common symptoms include fever, cough, headache and body ache, while children, older adults and people with underlying conditions may face greater risks of complications. Medical advice is recommended if symptoms persist or worsen.
DES-- India has nevertheless reported increased seasonal H1N1 activity during the monsoon, particularly in major cities. Delhi has recorded 1,777 confirmed cases this year, including 114 on August 20, while Karnataka has reported more than 4,000 cases. The Union Health Ministry is monitoring the situation through surveillance and public health measures. Authorities continue to recommend seasonal vaccination, particularly for high-risk groups, alongside timely medical consultation for severe symptoms, according to The Hindu report.
Amravati Hospital Fire: 3 Newborns Die, Ventilator Explosion Suspected
Amravati: Three newborns died after a massive fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Women's Hospital in Amravati in the early hours of Monday, officials said.
According to preliminary information, the fire erupted at around 3.30 am on the third floor of the hospital, reportedly following an explosion in a ventilator inside the neonatal unit, reports ANI.
Doctors, nurses and other staff on duty immediately began an evacuation operation and managed to rescue several infants from the ward.
