Hairdressers, beauticians, accountants may be at higher risk of ovarian cancer: Research

Hairdressers, beauticians, and accountants are among certain job roles that may be associated with a heightened risk of ovarian cancer, finds a case-control study published online in the journal Occupational & Environmental Medicine.

Those working in sales, retail, clothing and construction industries may also be vulnerable, while high cumulative exposure to particular agents, including talcum powder, ammonia, propellant gases, petrol and bleaches may have an important role, the findings suggest.

Consumer court relief to Lok Nayak Hospital, doctor; imposes Rs 10,000 cost on patient for frivolous and vexatious litigation

Holding that false allegations and unsubstantiated claims amount to frivolous and vexatious litigation, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-I (North District) has rejected a complaint against a doctor and Lok Nayak Hospital, seeking compensation on the ground of failed sterilisation surgery.

Divya Jyoti Jaipuriar, President and Ashwani Kumar Mehta, Member of the District Commission observed that as argued by the doctor's advocate the complaint was not maintainable qua doctor also as the hospital, being a government hospital, does not charge any fee from any of the patients and the services so rendered by employee doctors are also out of purview of application of the Consumer Protection Act.

13 New medical colleges in UP with 1000 MBBS seats to admit students this year

Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Uttar Pradesh, altogether 13 new medical colleges with an intake capacity of 1000 MBBS seats are set to begin their first academic session from 2023 onwards.

With this, altogether 5,128 Government medical seats will be available in Uttar Pradesh for admission to undergraduate medical courses. Meanwhile, the principal secretary of the State Department of Medical Education, Alok Kumar informed that the principals have already been appointed in these colleges.

Altogether 860 MBBS, 12758 PG medical seats remained vacant in the last three years: MoS Health

In the last three years, altogether 860 MBBS and 12758 PG Medical Seats remained vacant, the Union Minister of State for Health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Giving a year-wise break up of vacant medical seats, the MoS Health informed that during the academic year 2019-2020, the total number of vacant UG and PG medical seats were 273 and 4614 respectively.
