Orthopaedic surgeons competent to perform spine surgery; doctors anticipate NMC gazette
After the recent clarification issued by the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) specifying that both Orthopedic surgeons and Neurosurgeons are competent to perform Spine Surgery, the doctors are looking forward to a Gazette issued by the Commission in this regard.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that recently writing to Dr H.S.Chhabra, the Director of the Department of Spine & Rehabilitation Centre of Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, NMC Ethics Board clarified "that both the Orthopedic Surgeons and Neurosurgeons are competent to perform spine surgeries. In addition, spine Surgeons can also do the spine surgeries."

Navi Mumbai doctor faces culpable homicide charge following illegal abortion death
A doctor based in Navi Mumbai has been booked under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder following the death of a 25-year-old woman during an alleged illegal abortion procedure, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took a grim turn when Dagadkhaire and Gaikwad, on their return from Navi Mumbai on July 9, allegedly disposed of the woman's body and her two young children in the Indrayani River in Pune district.

Maharashtra reports 3,000 cases of winter fever and 2,000 dengue patients in one month
Due to continuous rainfall in recent weeks, Maharashtra has seen a significant rise in winter fever and dengue cases. Over the past month, from June 21 to July 18, the state has reported 2,924 new winter fever cases, bringing the total number of patients to 7,447, with three reported deaths. Dengue cases have also surged, with 2,163 new cases detected, raising the total to 4,965, and resulting in two deaths.
Gadchiroli has been the hardest hit, with 1,826 winter fever cases and three heat-related deaths. Mumbai follows with 657 winter fever cases. Dengue cases are most prevalent in Mumbai, with 394 cases, while Kolhapur has 297, Nashik 238, Raigad 103, Ratnagiri 61, and Palghar 45.
SC directs NTA to re-tally NEET results: Over 4 lakh candidates may lose marks
More than 4 Lakh NEET-UG 2024 candidates may lose 5 marks as the Supreme Court on Tuesday i.e. on July 23, 2024, asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to re-tally the results based on the inputs received from the IIT Delhi regarding the physics question having ambiguous options.
Earlier NTA had given full marks to everyone who had chosen Option 2 or Option 4 for "Question No. 29" of the Physics Section. However, this was challenged before the Supreme Court as a student pointed out that the question should have had only one correct answer, not two. Following this, the Supreme Court sought an expert opinion from IIT Delhi in this regard.
