Overview
In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, surgeons at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) reportedly performed surgery on a man admitted for a stomach tumour, but allegedly cut a portion of his intestine instead.
After the surgery, the patient was stitched up and discharged, but his abdominal pain continued. Concerned, his family took him to KLE Hospital in Belagavi, where a medical scan revealed that part of his intestine had been cut during the previous surgery at BIMS.
This revelation shocked the family, who believed their on had been admitted to BIMS for a tumour removal surgery. The alleged botched procedure not only worsened his suffering but also left him with long-term health complications.

Fake NRI Quota Scam: ED Busts 18,000 fraudulent MBBS Admissions
The investigating agency, Enforcement Directorate (ED), has recently busted a racket that used fake documents to get students admitted under the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota in medical colleges.
The Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassies assisted the investigation. The investigation revealed that private medical colleges admitted about 18,000 students to MBBS courses on the basis of fake documents.

NBE Announces FNB 2024 Round 2 Counselling: Detailed Seat Matrix Out
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the indicative Seat Matrix for Round 2 online Counselling for admission to Fellowship of the National Board (FNB) courses for the 2024 Admission Session. The seat matrix has been released in a PDF format on the official website of NBE.
The seat matrix includes important details such as Name of Hospital/ Institution, state, speciality, management, Total No. of Seats and Service Bond. As per the seat matrix, a total of 386 seats are vacant across 30 FNB Courses.

Karnataka HC Orders Rs 15 Lakh Compensation for Meritorious MBBS Candidate Denied Admission
The Karnataka High Court recently directed Home Minister G. Parameshwara-headed Sri Siddartha Academy of Education (SSAHE), Tumakuru (a deemed to be university), to pay Rs 15 lakh compensation to a student who was denied MBBS admission, when less meritorious candidates were granted admission to the medical college.
While considering the plea filed by the concerned student back in 2018, a Division bench of the HC comprising Justices Anu Sivaraman and Manmadha Rao observed that the action of Sri Siddhartha Medical College, under SSAHE, in denying seat to the petitioner and granting the seat "to a less meritorious candidate was per se arbitrary and illegal and cannot be excused under any circumstances."
