Kerala High Court Directs State to Maintain OPD, Essential Services During Ongoing Doctors’ Strike
Amid the ongoing indefinite hunger strike and boycott of OP services, non-emergency surgeries, and academic activities by senior government doctors over their long-pending demands, the Kerala High Court on February 26 passed an interim order directing the state government to ensure that the OPD and essential medical services in the government medical colleges are not disrupted during this period.

Nationwide HPV Vaccination Drive a Milestone in Public Health, Says Former ICMR Director General
V. M. Katoch, former Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research and former Health Research Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has hailed the nationwide rollout of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine as a landmark step in India’s public health journey. He described its inclusion in the national immunisation programme as visionary and transformative, noting that it would significantly strengthen efforts to combat cervical cancer—one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among Indian women. Emphasising that HPV infection is a major cause of cervical cancer, he said the disease remains a serious threat, particularly to women in their young and middle years.
Katoch underscored that cervical cancer is preventable and that vaccination is among the most effective tools available. Though India approved the HPV vaccine nearly two decades ago, access remained largely limited to private healthcare, IANS reported.
With its inclusion in the national programme, he said, the vaccine will now reach vulnerable and economically disadvantaged girls. Citing its proven global safety and effectiveness, he expressed confidence that sustained implementation could eventually eliminate cervical cancer as a public health threat in India.
6-month-old Baby Finger Severed During IV Drip Removal; Bengaluru Hospital Doctor, Nurse Booked
In an alleged case of medical negligence, a six-month-old baby boy's finger was partially severed while hospital staff were removing an IV drip during the discharge, prompting police in Bengaluru to register an FIR against the nurse, doctor and private hospital management.
According to police, in his complaint, Vijay Kumar said that on February 19, he took his six-month-old child to a private hospital in Indiranagar here for consultation after he developed a fever and cold. As per the doctor’s advice, he was admitted for further treatment at about 10.57 am, news agency PTI reported.
