Supreme Court sets aside HC order directing Rs 25 lakh compensation for Gross Medical Negligence

Taking note of the fact that none of the treating doctors were made party in medical negligence case proceedings, the Supreme Court recently set aside the order of the Allahabad High Court.

The HC, while considering the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), had directed the doctors of S.R.N. Hospital to pay Rs 25 lakhs as compensation to the father of a 25-year-old man who died due to alleged medical negligence.

Indian medical students abroad with incomplete internship due to compelling situations to get relief

Indian students pursuing medical studies abroad who could not complete their internship due to compelling situations such as war and the Covid pandemic will now be able to finish their remaining internship in the country, the government said on Friday.

This will, however, be subject to the condition that such candidates must have cleared FMGE (screening test), which is mandatory for Indian students with foreign medical qualification to practice medicine in India, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

Indian-American Doctor Jailed For 96 Months In Healthcare Fraud

In a healthcare fraud, an Indian-American ophthalmologist in New York has been jailed for 96 months and is also accused of obtaining government loans meant for Covid-hit small businesses.

Ameet Goyal, MD, was sentenced this month by Damian Williams, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, for falsely billing for millions of dollars of upcoded procedures, and also for fraudulently obtaining two government-guaranteed loans intended to help small businesses during the pandemic.

Delhi govt to upgrade 15 hospitals; plans four new facilities

With an aim to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the capital, the Delhi government announced on Saturday an upgradation of 15 existing hospitals in the city and four new facilities will be established as the infrastructure has gone through multiple waves of the coronavirus pandemic.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday presented a Rs 75,800-cr budget in the Assembly for the financial year 2022-23 and later tweeted that Rs 9,769 crore allocated to the health sector. The outlay is less compared to the allocation (Rs 9,934 crore) in the last budget.
