Monkeypox update: Health Minister apprises Parliament about steps taken to curtail Disease
Responding to a series of questions raised around the rising cases of monkeypox in the country, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare recently apprised the parliament about the steps taken by the government to combat this disease.
As on 1st August 2022, seven confirmed cases (including one death) of Monkeypox disease, four cases (including one death) from Kerala and three cases from Delhi have been reported by the States and UTs in the country. On 14th July 2022, the first case of Monkeypox disease in India was reported from Kerala by an international traveller.

Parallel book-keeping, referral payments to doctors and clinics: IT raid at Delhi Hospitals reveal Rs 150 crore unaccounted income
An income tax raid at a series of hospitals and healthcare institutions in Delhi-NCR seems to have opened a can of worms regarding the functioning of hospitals with parallel book-keeping, referral payment to doctors and clinics as percentage of invoices to patients, overcharging of patients bills as well as other incriminating evidence of transactions of benami nature.
"The Income Tax Department carried out search and seizure operations on 27.07.2022 on several groups engaged in the healthcare services by running hospitals. A total of 44 premises were covered during the search action in Delhi-NCR. During the course of the search operation, huge incriminating physical and digital evidence has been seized," the IT department stated in its release.

Rs 1000 crore doctors freebies scam: NMC asks Tax Department for names of doctors, to soon initiate action
The doctors whose names have allegedly been unearthed in the recent Income Tax raid at Micro Labs are expected to face the wrath of National Medical Commission (NMC) which has asked the IT Department for revealing the names of the involved doctors in order to begin its own investigations into the matter. These doctors allegedly seem to have taken freebies including travel expenses, perquisites and gifts amounting to Rs 1000 crore from the manufacturer of the famous Dolo 650 brand.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Income Tax Department had conducted raids on the offices of popular drug Dolo-650 manufacturer Micro Labs Limited in the connection of alleged tax evasion.

PGI Chandigarh halts treatment of patients from Punjab under Ayushman Scheme over pending dues
Owing to pending claims exceeding Rs. 15 crores, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh has stopped treating patients under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, said officials.
The patients can continue to seek treatment at the institute as routine patients by paying the user charges or under other applicable welfare schemes.
