Senior faculty must mentor junior faculty: NMC Guidelines

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has encouraged the senior faculties in medical colleges to act as a mentor for their juniors.

Discussing the responsibilities of medical teachers to their colleagues, the apex medical commission mentioned in the recently released guidelines on "Professional Responsibilities of Medical Teachers" that "Senior faculty are encouraged to mentor junior faculty."

Drug Safety Alert: Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission flags ADR linked to Ziprasidone

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), through its recently issued drug safety alert for the month of April, has revealed that an atypical antipsychotic Ziprasidone may lead to adverse drug reaction known as Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS).

This came after a preliminary analysis of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) from the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) database.

NMC nod to 150 MBBS seats at Machilipatnam Medical College

Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Andhra Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod for 150 MBBS seats at Government Medical College in Machilipatnam.

The apex medical education regulatory body NMC has permitted the State to commence the MBBS admission in 150 seats at the medical college from the academic year 2023-2024.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that medical colleges at Eluru, Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Nandyal and Machilipatnam districts of the State will commence the MBBS admission process in 150 MBBS seats each.

NEET PG 2023: Check out reservation policy in Central Universities

NEET PG 2023 counseling to begin soon. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for conducting the counseling process for seat allotment.

MCC conducts counseling for the following –

1. 50% seats of All India Quota

2. 100% seats of Deemed/Central Universities

3. 100% all India open DNB seats

For Central Universities, there will be four rounds of counseling, i.e., Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round & Stray Vacancy Round, to be conducted by MCC of DGHS. All the candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats based on their rank in NEET PG conducted by NBE will be eligible for the 50% AIQ seats of Central University.

Issue of specialist degrees comes before NCDRC during medical negligence case, forum gives relief to Gynaecologist, MBBS Doctor

Observing that as long as the doctor performs his duties to the best of his ability and with due care and caution, negligence can’t be attributed to him, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has absolved a Gynaecologist and her husband (an anaesthetist) against charges of medical negligence in performing Subtotal Hysterectomy that eventually resulted in the removal of the uterus of a patient.
