Telangana baby with rare genetic disease administered Rs 16 crore drug
A 23-month-old baby with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, received a new lease of life with Swiss drugmaker Novartis coming forward to donate gene therapy costing Rs 16 crore.
Baby Ellen was administered Zolgensma gene therapy, called the world's costliest drug, at a private hospital in Hyderabad on August 6, her father Rayapudi Praveen said on Sunday.

NEET PG Counselling 2022: MCC notifies on online generation of PwD certificates by Disability Certification Centers
Through a recent notice, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has informed about the online generation of PwD certificates by the NEET Disability Certification Centers for the upcoming NEET PG Counselling 2022.
In this regard, it is informed that the MCC portal for the generation of PwD certificates is likely to open today (8th August 2022).

Scissors left in patient's abdomen by Govt doctors for 12 years, State directed to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation for negligence
Holding a Tiruttani-based Government Hospital guilty of medical negligence for leaving a pair of scissors inside the abdomen of a patient, the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission has now directed the State to pay the family of the woman Rs 10 lakh as compensation.
According to a recent report by TOI, slamming the doctors for violating the code of medical ethics, the Commission observed, "Government is spending huge money for the promotion of health. However, as far as the case on hand is concerned, the action on the part of the doctors and staff at the government hospital in not providing proper treatment in time to the woman was against the code of medical ethics."

NMC seeks action taken report on reallocation of Telangana MBBS, PG medicos
Following the High Court's directions for reallocating the MBBS/PG students who had to face cancellation of admission due to a surprise inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Apex Medical Body NMC has now sought an action taken report from the Government within one week.
In this regard, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) undergraduate section of NMC has already written to the Principal Secretary of the State Health Department, Sam Rizvi.

Private medical colleges take NMC to court over order calling for MBBS fee on par with GMCs for 50 percent seats
Upset with the National Medical Commission (NMC) order regarding 50% seats in the private medical colleges, several deemed to be universities and self-financing medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have now approached the Madras High Court and filed a plea challenging the concerned fee order.
In the concerned order issued in February 2022, NMC had directed the private medical colleges to charge equal fees with the government medical colleges in 50% of the total seats.
