New COVID variant "Eris" found in Maharashtra
The new COVID variant EG.5.1 or Eris has been a reason for slight rise in the coronavirus caseload in Maharashtra. The variant has also been leading to an increase in covid cases in UK. Coronavirus cases have increased from 70 at the end of July to 115 on August 6, as per state health department data, reports TOI.
NExT regulations notified by NMC took into consideration 6,500 comments during consultation process: Mandaviya
The National Medical Commission (NMC) prepared the National Exit Test (NExT) Regulations, 2023 after considering around 6500 comments received during the consultation process and finally, the regulations were notified by NMC on 27.06.2023, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The Health Minister further informed that the draft regulations were discussed and approved in the meeting of the NMC where Universities and State Medical Councils are also represented.

9 Medical colleges under NMC scanner continue to be banned from admitting students to 1500 MBBS seats
Altogether 1,500 seats belonging to nine medical colleges across the Country will remain unavailable for the MBBS aspirants joining the course this year i.e. during the academic year 2023-2024.
Among these nine colleges, two each are from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and one each from Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. These colleges, all of which are either private or trust-run, came under the scanner of the National Medical Commission (NMC) earlier this year.

Do not submit same batch no. of cough syrup to two different laboratories: DCGI tells manufacturers, exporters
Safeguarding public health, through a recent notification, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has notified all drug manufacturers' associations and exporters not to submit the same batch of cough syrup to more than one laboratory at a time, as this practice is highly objectionable and not acceptable from a regulatory standpoint.
This came when two different government laboratories accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration (NABL) received cough syrup from the same manufacturer/exporter with the same batch number for testing purposes.
