Overview

There seems to be a perpetual call from the medical fraternity for creation of the Indian Medical Services (IMS) for quite some time. Demands state that The IMS would be organized along the lines of the All India civil services, such as the IAS, IPS, and IFS. Conditions for posting, recruitment and other aspects of the terms of service may be comparable to those that apply to the IAS and IPS. Stressing on doctors managing doctors, the demand envisages that the entrance test for IMS should require MBBS as a prerequisite for eligibility, and it can be administered similarly to other UPSC exams. The opinions of the parliamentary panel are in line with those of IMA and FORDA, who have long called for the establishment of such a specialized service. Although the government is aware of the problem, little has been accomplished so far in this regard. The Covid-19 pandemic's issues have now rekindled the medical community's need for the formation of a distinct cadre.

Dr Rohan Krishnan

Dr. Rohan Krishnan is a National Chairman & Co-Founder FAIMA Doctors Association. He is a well-known medico-social activist and leader of youth doctors and holds many positions in various organizations. He has served as President of Resident Doctors Assoc. , Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, National President, FAIMA doctors Association, Chairman Anti Harassment Cell of FORDA doctors Association, President of Students union, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. He is presently also serving as Branch President of the Indian Medical Association, Central Council Member, IMA HQ, Orthopaedic Surgeon Maulana Azad Medical College & LNJP Hospital. Academically he is a Hons in MBBS and a university topper at Delhi University. He has more than 25 paper publications under his name and has served as a key speaker at various National and International conference.

Dr J A Jayalal

Dr J A Jayalal, is the former national president of the Indian Medical Association. Dr. Jayalal professor of surgery in Tirunelveli Medical College. He is serving in the Health and Family Welfare Department as Medical Officer since 1993 and at present working as Associate Professor in Surgery in Government Medical College Hospital, Kanyakumari. He also serves as State Hon’ble General Secretary for the largest professional organization IMA in Tamilnadu state and also the National Coordinator for the Academic Wings of IMA.

Dr Aviral Mathur

Dr. Aviral Mathur (MBBS [MAMC], MD Anesthesia [MAMC]) currently serving as President of FORDA and RDA MAMC as well as Senior Resident at MAMC and Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi. Dr Aviral has a 6 years experience of clinical practice.
