Delhi Govt issues advisory on water-borne diseases

Delhi Government has issued an advisory cautioning increased risk of contracting water-borne diseases in the rainy season. The advisory has mentioned the dos and don't .

Do not prescribe Pholcodine-Containing Cough Syrup: DCGI tells doctors

In line with the safety alert published by WHO on the Prior use of Pholcodine containing cough and cold remedies and the risk of perioperative anaphylactic reactions to neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) functional under the Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) recommended doctors to stop prescribing Pholcodine containing cough and cold remedies and suggest patients an alternative to treat their symptoms.

This came after the World Health Organization (WHO) alerted about a safety concern that has been identified with Pholcodine containing cough and cold remedies.

According to the advisory doctors and healthcare professionals should advise patients to stop taking Pholcodine containing cough and cold remedies and should suggest an alternative to treat their symptoms. Furthermore, it states to verify whether the patient scheduled to take general anesthetics containing neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) have taken Pholcodine containing cough and cold remedies in previous 12 months and also be aware of anaphylactic reactions in such patients.

Stillbirth delivery: Gynaecologists, nurses sentenced to 2-year jail, directed to pay Rs 50k fine, Rs 1 lakh compensation

Two gynaecologists, along with 3 nurses associated with Aundh District Hospital (ADH) booked under IPC 304 A have been convicted in a medical negligence case by a court in Pimpri. The judicial magistrate first class, N R Gajbhiye, sentenced them to two years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each and further directed them to pay a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the woman who gave birth to a stillborn.

According to a recent report by HT, the case that goes back to 2011 came to light when Bhagwan Daulat Wakode, the driver of Aundh Hospital, filed a complaint with Sangvi Police Station. On November 30, 2010, the complainant's (then 22-year-old) daughter was admitted to the hospital for delivery while experiencing abdominal pain.

Telangana doctors up and arms against Govt training of RMPs, PMPs

Terming it as a way of promoting quackery, the resident doctors in Telangana have initiated a black badge protest strongly objecting to the government's decision to train RMPs and PMPs in the state.

This comes after the State Health Minister T Harish Rao emphasised training the paramedical practitioners (PMP) and the registered medical practitioners (RMP) across the State and constituted a panel to submit a report in this regard, adds TNIE.

This decision was strongly opposed by the medical fraternity across the State and now the doctors associated with Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T JUDA) have initiated a black badge protest.
