Delhi: ACB Probes Alleged Rs 700 Crore Medical Procurement Scam - Video
Overview
A major alleged medical procurement scam worth around ₹650-700 crore has come under investigation in Delhi, with the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) probing claims of inflated purchases of medicines, surgical supplies and hospital equipment for government hospitals. The probe centres on procurements made through the Central Procurement Agency under the Directorate of Health Services. Investigators are examining purchases of items ranging from ORS packets and bedsheets to portable X-ray machines and other medical equipment. Reports allege that ORS packets costing about ₹2.50 were purchased for ₹15, bedsheets worth ₹150 were billed at ₹450, while portable X-ray machines priced at nearly ₹10 lakh were allegedly procured for ₹33 lakh, reports The Tatva.
The ACB has arrested three individuals in connection with the case, including former DGHS Dr Vatsala Aggarwal, former CPA Head of Office Dr Vinod Kumar Ranga and former Deputy Controller of Accounts Neeraj Chopra. Investigators are also examining allegations that tender conditions were manipulated to benefit selected suppliers. Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a probe into the alleged irregularities, stating that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty after a fair and transparent investigation. However, officials said the exact financial loss is still being verified.
