The Health and Welfare Department of the Delhi Government, through its special secretary (council) has issued a show-cause notice to the Delhi Medical Council (DMC), through its President, threatening disciplinary action under the Delhi Medical Council Act 1997.

Further, the Government has also threatened dissolution of the Council under Section 29 of the Medical Council Act, 1997.

Issuing show-cause notice to the Council, the Health Department mentioned, "Whereas the Deptt. of Health & Family Welfare, GNCTD vide letter No. 160/H&FW/2022/Council/1456 dt. 27.11.2024 has explicitly directed that enhancement of retirement age of Dr. Girish Tyagj. from 60 to 65 years is in complete violation of orders/communication issued time to time. And whereas, the WP (C) 16612/2024 titled Dr. Girish Tyagi Registrar Delhi Medical Council Vs. Govt. of NCT of Delhi and Anr. still pending in Honble High Court of Delhi and has not granted any stay on it. And whereas, the continuation of Dr. Girish Tyagi not permitted and directed to relinquish the charge of Registrar, DMC immediately."

Referring to the doctors' illegible handwriting in medico-legal reports as astounding and appalling in the era of computers, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought the assistance of Advocates-General of Punjab and Haryana, along with UT senior standing counsel and the National Medical Commission (NMC) to lay down remedial measures in this regard.

Further, the HC bench comprising Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri also appointed Advocate Tanu Bedi as the Amicus Curiae in the matter, Tribune has reported.

Speaking The Tribune, Dr Munish Kumar Saroch, President of TAMCOT, said that the decision to oppose the merger was unanimously taken at a meeting held yesterday evening “We have sought time from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to request him to withdraw the decision of merging cadres of medical colleges in the state. However, in case the government does not withdraw its decision, the medical teachers of Tanda Medical College would proceed on mass casual leave,” he said.
