Madras High Court Declines NEET Re-Exam SOP Plea Amid Pending Supreme Court Case - Video

The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure a fair, transparent and disruption-free environment for candidates appearing in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21.

The petitioner had urged the court to direct authorities to frame uniform guidelines for all examination centres and, as an interim measure, asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to issue ad hoc instructions to invigilators to ensure students receive the full allotted exam time without interruptions. The plea was filed in the backdrop of the cancellation of the May 3 NEET-UG examination following allegations of a question paper leak, according to the Live Law report.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan declined to entertain the petition, observing that similar issues concerning NEET-UG 2026 are already pending before the Supreme Court. The apex court is examining multiple petitions related to the cancelled examination, including the NTA's compliance with recommendations made by a high-powered expert committee formed in 2024 to strengthen the NEET system. In view of the pending proceedings before the Supreme Court, the High Court held that it would not be appropriate to intervene and dismissed the plea.
