Manipal Hospital doctors perform rare nerve tumour surgery
|
Overview
A successful surgical procedure was carried out at Manipal Hospital, Goa, on a 50-year-old woman to address a nerve tumor in her leg. The surgical team, led by Dr. Omkar Churi, Consultant Neurosurgeon, and Dr. Amey Pednekar, Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon, both affiliated with Manipal Hospital, Goa, executed the operation with precision.
The patient had been experiencing severe shooting pain in her leg, along with mild weakness. Initially, her symptoms began as pain during extended periods of walking, but over the course of a year, they escalated, even causing discomfort at rest. She also noticed the emergence of a growing mass in her calf, which eventually led to mild leg weakness.
Medical evaluations and imaging studies revealed the presence of a tumor along one of the major nerves in her leg. Initially, pain relief medications were administered, but subsequent scans demonstrated an increase in the size of the lesion, prompting the decision to proceed with surgery.
