NTA Seeks Government Institution Details for NEET UG Exam Centres Next Year - Video

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has begun identifying government institutions that could serve as computer-based testing centres for NEET-UG from next year. The agency has sought details of available IT infrastructure and vacant space through the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Following the request, AICTE has asked vice-chancellors of state-run technical universities and heads of AICTE-approved government institutions to provide information on functional computers, networking, internet connectivity, power backup, CCTV systems and available space. Institutions have been directed to submit verified details by September 15.

The move comes as NEET-UG is set to shift from pen-and-paper to computer-based testing from next year, following the examination controversy and paper-leak allegations. The NEET-UG exam held on May 3 was cancelled by the Union Education Ministry, after which the NTA faced increased scrutiny and its examination system underwent an overhaul. According to AICTE, the NTA conducts several national-level examinations in CBT mode and requires a wider network of testing centres. The infrastructure assessment is therefore aimed at expanding government-run facilities that can potentially be developed into Standard Testing Centres for NEET-UG and other entrance examinations, reports India Today.
