SFI Demands NEET Abolition, Seeks Union Education Minister's Resignation - Video
Overview
Members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a hunger strike in Madurai on Saturday, demanding the abolition of the NEET examination, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the test, and the dismantling of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The protest also condemned the alleged crackdown on students and youth protesting against the examination system in Delhi. The demonstration was led by SFI state executive committee member C. David Rajadurai near the Palanganatham roundabout.
Addressing the gathering, SFI Madurai suburban district secretary S. Sudharshan alleged that NEET has adversely affected students and called for stronger measures to prevent student suicides. He further held the Union Government and the Education Minister responsible for failing to prevent alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations. Speakers at the protest criticised what they described as the commercialisation of education and anti-student policies of the Centre. Madurai Corporation Acting Mayor T. Nagarajan and representatives of allied organisations also extended their support to the protest, reports TOI.
